Incorporated during Findlay’s “gas boom,” Blanchard Valley Hospital has remained the community’s chief healthcare provider for more than 100-years. Known at one time to the pioneers of community as the “French Estate”, the campus has evolved since its initial purchase in 1895 through many years of additions and renovations to the facility.

In 1974 BVHS demonstrated its commitment to patient satisfaction as it became the nation’s first hospital to guarantee its services.

The 150-bed acute care facility is known statewide for its expert medical staff, state-of-the-art technology and innovative programs. BVHS boasts an active medical of more than 150 members, which includes a full range of specialists allowing area patients to receive treatment right here at home.

The Blanchard Valley Hospital provides a full range of inpatient/outpatient healthcare services including 24-hour emergency care, obstetrics, laboratory, radiology, rehabilitation, cancer care, cardiopulmonary, cardiac catheterization, inpatient psychiatric care, a dialysis center, vascular lab, and nuclear medicine.

The William E. Ruse Center, part of the Blanchard Valley Hospital and named after longtime BVHS associate and past CEO William E. Ruse houses a state-of-the-art emergency department and provisional level 2 trauma center and special imaging services, including a new MRI and CT scan. The second floor, home to HeartCare Center, is entirely dedicated to cardiopulmonary services, including a cardiac, pulmonary, and vascular rehabilitation facility, cardiopulmonary diagnostic services, and a family resource center.

In August of 2003, the Blanchard Valley Health System Board of Directors announced plans to construct a new six-story, 200,000 sq. ft. inpatient pavilion on the Blanchard Valley Hospital. The new pavilion will run north and south across Wallace Street, with the entrance facing South Main Street and be attached at the current hospital’s fountain courtyard area. This project includes not only a completely new inpatient space with 151 beds, but also a major renovation and expansion of the current surgery area. Total cost of the project is estimated to be $95 million. This announcement emphasizes BVHS' commitment to strengthen one of the main foundations of the community and underlines the commitment to providing quality healthcare.

As one of the county’s leading employers, the Blanchard Valley Health System will continue to stay ahead of the healthcare curve and provide the healthcare resources necessary to care for patients in this region.

Blanchard Valley Health System continues with its mission to provide exceptional healthcare services to Findlay and surrounding communities in northwest Ohio.
