The hospital moved to its present site in 1936 and in July 1995, after nearly 90 years of service, merged with Blanchard Valley Hospital. Bluffton Hospital is an acute care division of the Blanchard Valley Health System. The Bluffton Hospital is a licensed 25 bed, short-term general acute care facility serving parts of four counties – Allen, Hancock, Hardin and Putnam. It is a primary care facility where patients are referred, followed and primarily attended by their family physicians or obstetricians/gynecologists. Specialty surgeons from Findlay and Lima support area physicians by offering services to patients locally. The Bluffton Hospital received Critical Access Hospital status in 2004 after being deemed eligible through the State of Ohio as a "necessary provider." Having completed a $3.1 million remodeling and expansion project in November 2001, the Bluffton campus offers a state of the art, Level 1 obstetrics unit and enhanced diagnostic and rehab services to the community. In 2004 the Bluffton Hospital recorded over 270 births, 1000 surgical procedures, nearly 1000 adult admissions and approximately 5,000 emergency department patients for a combined total of over 34,000 patient visits. Bluffton also provides laboratory services, diagnostic radiology, mammography, CAT Scan, ultrasound, pulmonary function, respiratory therapy, cardiac stress testing, EKG, pacemaker clinics, echocardiography, holter monitor, as well as physical and occupational therapy services. Bluffton Hospital also offers laboratory, EKG, X-ray and mammography services through its Ottawa Diagnostic Center in Ottawa, Ohio seeing about 5,000 patients annually. In addition, a unique arrangement has existed between the hospital and the Village of Bluffton with the hospital switchboard serving as the communication department for the Bluffton Police, Fire and EMS.
