State Health Care Issues Limited-Service Hospitals Hospitals are seeking to clarify public policy in Ohio to require all new hospitals in operation after Aug, 8, 2006, to maintain an emergency department 24 hours a day, seven days a week and maintain Medicare and Medicaid provider agreements. Last session, legislation was introduced proposing these requirements. That legislation was reintroduced this session as Senate Bill 120. Such requirements would ensure that all Ohio hospitals provide critical emergency health care to Ohioans and make Ohio less of a target for new limited-service, specialty hospitals, which jeopardize the stability of Ohio's community hospitals.
