2008 Candidate Briefing Books

Now more than ever, seeking elected office means learning all candidates can about issues that affect their constituents. Health care is one of those broad issues sure to be on their radar regardless of the office they seek. As the statewide authority on hospitals and health care public policy, the Ohio Hospital Association is pleased to provide the resources below to help candidates better understand today’s critical health care topics.

State Briefing Papers

OHA has created briefing papers to help candidates quickly get up to speed on issues ranging from consumer-driven health care and transparency to Medicaid and physician-owned, limited-service hospitals. While providing an objective overview, these issue briefs also clearly identify where Ohio’s hospitals stand on key issues.

Community Benefit Report

The report, Caring Today for a Healthy Tomorrow, showcases the many compelling contributions hospitals make within and outside their walls. The 174 hospitals that participated in the report provided at least $1.8 billion in community benefit in 2006, the most recent year for which data is available. The community benefit provided by Ohio hospitals grew 21 percent between 2005 and 2006.

Glossary of Health Care Terms

This helpful resource provides elected officials a brief, easy-to-use and easy-to-understand list of health care terms and provides Ohio hospitals a condensed explanation of some legislative terms. This reference helps both sectors, as well as the community at large, have a better understanding of the evolving health care delivery system.
