careLearning
is proud to announce further expansion careLearning, OHA’s e-Learning solution, now offers 15 courses within the Health & Safety Compliance Series. Medical Radiation Safety and Hand Hygiene were added to the Series in 2007 at no additional cost to members. The Medical Radiation Safety course addresses the different sources of radiation used in medical facilities, the health effects of radiation and steps employees can take to minimize their exposure. The course offers education on diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine procedures, Radiation Therapy and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), that is only included if the organization decides it is applicable. The MRI lesson addresses employee safety concerns related to projectile injuries and quenching that is highlighted in The Joint Commission Sentinel Event Alert (Issue 38) that focuses on dangers in the MRI suite. The Hand Hygiene course was written to incorporate the recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). The Hand Hygiene course addresses the types of patient/resident care activities that result in hand contamination, the relationship between contaminated hands and healthcare-associated infections, the benefits of hand hygiene, how to perform hand hygiene and use gloves appropriately, and methods to reduce hand irritation. In addition to expanding the Health & Safety Compliance Series, careLearning is taking this opportunity to revise all of the courses to offer new features, a new appearance and allow for more customization by organizations.
