HEALTH INSURING CORPORATION PERFORMANCE
REPORT
The Health Insuring Corporation Performance Report provides OHA members with comparative data on Ohio’s licensed health insuring corporations, HICs (also known as HMOs).
This report outlines performance measures, details
on selected market segments, summarizes industry trends and reflects changes in the financial condition of individual health plans. Data included are obtained from the annual financial statements each HIC submits to the Ohio Department of Insurance. In addition, the report includes methodology worksheets to provide assistance in understanding the data and calculations used to create each profile.
In June 1997, the Ohio General Assembly enacted Ohio Revised Code (ORC) 1751 creating one license and regulatory statute for managed care plans assuming an insurance risk. ORC 1751, also called the Uniform Licensing Act, transferred previously licensed entities such as Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO), Pre-Paid Dentals (PPD) and Health Care Corporations into this statute. All pre-paid plans now operate as Health Insuring Corporations (HICs) under Ohio law.
