Influenza or "flu" is a common occurrence every year in Ohio and considered a very serious disease. Nationwide, influenza and its complications cause approximately 36,000 deaths and 226,000 hospitalizations annually according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Pneumococcal Pneumonia is the most common complication associated with influenza.  Together flu and Pneumonia causes over 2100 deaths annually in Ohio, placing them among the top 10 causes of death in the state.

This site offers up-to-date information on influenza and pneumococcal vaccine recommendations for high risk groups, resources, and additional key information for health care workers and consumers.

While flu season usually runs from October through March of each year, health care professionals are reminded to begin preparations early, visiting this site often for accurate information and updates. Committed to improving the number of appropriate Ohio patients and health care workers vaccinated against influenza and Pneumococcal disease, the Ohio Hospital Association, The Ohio Department of Health and Ohio KePRO joined forces to create this resource.
