A Bigger Picture: Ohio Hospitals More Than Just a Great Place for Medical Services
Think of a nearby hospital. This shouldn’t be too difficult for most Ohioans since 78 of the state’s 88 counties have a hospital. When you think of the hospital, what do you see? Do you see the blue “H” sign? Do you see hospital beds and IV poles? Do you see bustling nurses?

People often see hospitals through the lens of their personal experiences or through stories from friends and families. A young boy who collided with the coffee table may remember the funny doctors and colorful crafts at the children’s hospital emergency department more than getting stitches. The mother of a premature infant may remember not only her worry and countless trips to the hospital, but the joy and appreciation she felt when her baby was healthy enough to come home. A cancer survivor who gathers with fellow survivors once a month perhaps has memories of fear and concern but also sees the hospital as a source of hope and life.
