New Hospital Leaders Join OHA Board

COLUMBUS—Ohio hospitals have elected a new Chair, several District Representatives and a new Trustee-At-Large to serve on the 2005 Ohio Hospital Association (OHA) Board of Trustees.

The new Chair is James A. Kingsbury, executive director of The University Hospital and senior vice president of the Health Alliance in Cincinnati.

Kingsbury has been a member of the Board since 1992, beginning his tenure as Trustee-At-Large. This year he served as Chair-elect and in 2003 he served as Secretary/Treasurer. Prior to leading The University Hospital, Kingsbury was senior vice president of The Fort Hamilton Hospital and served as president and CEO of the Fort Hamilton Healthcare Corporation since 1987. Kingsbury holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the University of South Dakota and earned a master’s degree in public health and hospital administration from the University of California. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, past member of the Region Policy Board 5 of the American Hospital Association and past chair of the Greater Cincinnati Health Council and Hamilton Chamber of Commerce.

The immediate past chair is Thomas A. Selden, president and CEO of the Cleveland Clinic Health System - East Region. Selden has been a member of the Board since 1996 beginning his tenure as the Northeast Ohio District Representative.

Next year’s Chair-Elect is Cathleen Nelson, president and CEO of United Health Partners in Toledo. Nelson was a member of the Board from 1997-2001 and returned in 2004 as Secretary/Treasurer.

William Harding, president and CEO of Union Hospital in Dover was elected Secretary/Treasurer for the upcoming year. Harding was a member of the Board from 1992-1993 and will be reinstated in 2005 in his new role.

Elected as a Trustee-At-Large for a three-year term is William Considine, president, Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Akron.

Elected as District Representatives for three-year terms are the following:

  • Larry Unroe, president, Marietta Memorial Hospital (Central Region)
  • Scott Malaney, president and CEO, Blanchard Valley Health Association, Findlay (Northwest Region)
  • James Pancoast, president and CEO, Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton (Southwest Region)
  • Fred DeGrandis, CEO, Cleveland Clinic Health System – Western Region (Northeast Region)

The OHA Board of Trustees sets policy and strategic direction for matters affecting hospitals throughout Ohio. The Board consists of the Chair, Chair-Elect, Secretary/Treasurer, immediate past chair, the OHA president, four District Representatives and up to 15 Trustees-at-Large.

The Ohio Hospital Association was established in 1915 and currently represents 170 hospitals and 40 health systems throughout Ohio.
