OHA Endorses Issue 1, Opposes Issue 3 COLUMBUS –The Ohio Hospital Association (OHA) Board of Trustees urges 230,000 hospital associates to support State Issue 1 on Nov. 8 and oppose Issue 3. State Issue 1, known as Jobs for Ohio, is designed to create and preserve jobs, enhance educational opportunities and improve business climate in Ohio by authorizing the state to issue bonds. The Board voted to back the issue, as it will create jobs and expand research in areas such as biomedical studies. The bonds will help local government improve its public infrastructure, expand Ohio’s research capabilities, prepare economic development sites and facilities in Ohio, enhance educational opportunities and improve Ohio’s business climate. The Board took a position against State Issue 3, a proposal designed to tilt campaign finance law in favor of small donor collections utilized by labor unions and against individuals and political action committees. Issue 3 would reduce the campaign contribution limits that were substantially increased in a reform bill passed by the Ohio General Assembly in 2004. It would allow special interests in and outside of Ohio to give 10 times more money to a statewide candidate than individuals or political action committees are allowed, and would not require disclosure of the revenue’s source. If passed, Issue 3 would lock into the Ohio Constitution election rules and regulations nearly impossible to change by Ohio voters. OHA took the above positions on State Issues 1 and 3 as a reflection of Ohio hospitals’ dedication to their associates, their patients and a better health care system in Ohio. Information on all five state issues is available at www.prosperityfund.net/oh/oha. The Ohio Hospital Association was established in 1915 and currently represents 170 hospitals and 40 health systems throughout Ohio. OHA is a membership-driven organization that provides proactive leadership to create an environment in which Ohio hospitals are successful in serving their communities.
