The Ohio Hospital
Association County Profiles are a compilation of county-level data on
who pays for health care, leading causes of death, the economic impact
of hospitals on the communities in which they reside, and the
frequency of hospital use by county residents. View also
Primary Care County Profiles provided by the Ohio Department of
Health, with information on the unmet need for primary care in Ohio's
counties.

Who Pays for Health Care? Using a variety of sources, the
pie chart identifies the proportion of county residents by type of
health care “insurance.” The categories are:

Medicaid Aged, Blind, and
Disabled is funded by federal and state monies to assist with some or
all medical expenses for Ohioans aged 65 or older, blind or disabled,
who meet financial eligibility guidelines.

Medicaid S-CHIP Expansion,
also known as Healthy Start, covers children to age 19 up to 200
percent of the federal poverty level and pregnant women up to 150
percent of the federal poverty level.

Medicaid Kids/Fam (Healthy
Families) covers families at or below 100 percent of the federal
poverty level. (The Medicaid Healthy Families and Healthy Start
programs are referred to as Covered Families and Children eligibility
categories, and are funded by both federal and state monies.)

Medicare is Medicare is a
federally funded health insurance program for people 65 years of age
and older, some disabled people under 65 years of age, and people with
End-Stage Renal Disease.

Private Commercial takes
in employment-based health coverage and privately purchased health
insurance.

Uninsured Ohioans have no
health insurance coverage from any source.
Leading Causes of Death are listed in rank order for each
county. Figures listed are actual deaths, as opposed to age-adjusted
rates.
Economic Impact is calculated
using select data from Hospital Cost Report Information Files
submitted to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services and
multiplying those fields by median factors derived from the IMPLAN®
computer model.
Hospital Patient Volumes represent
the county of residence for individuals treated in Ohio hospitals.
