Data
and Information Resources
Since 1979, OHA Data Services has been
offering members hospitals information to support their decision-making
needs. OHA receives data from member and non-member hospitals, within and
outside of Ohio, relating to inpatient, outpatient, emergency department
and skilled nursing facility care. OHA turns this data into information that is not only
meaningful but also actionable – please find below information how OHA
uses data to provide valuable services to member hospitals.
OHA Insight
The Ohio Hospital Association in coordination with member hospitals have
developed new web based software that allows
hospitals
to run customized and standard reports for Marketing, Physician
Recruiting, Business Development and Benchmarking purposes. The new
software: OHA
Insight was developed based upon Hospital input to give
Hospitals access to crucial information regarding inpatient, outpatient
and emergency room data – in total over 23 million patient records per
year. Hospitals can now find out where patients are going for services
and what opportunities exist for growth and improvement. To learn more
about OHA
Insight or schedule a demonstration
of the software system, please contact Dan Paoletti at OHA –
danp@ohanet.org or 614-221-7614.

OhioScope
OHA
is pleased to offer, in partnership with Health Forecasts, a new
strategic planning product –
OhioScope.
OhioScope provides the
industry’s most accurate one, three and five year market utilization
forecasts for healthcare services. The data represents not only
hospital based services but free standing ambulatory centers and
physician office based services as well.
OhioScope is the only
forecasting tool that utilizes OHA’s database and it is for the
exclusive use of Ohio Hospitals. To

OhioScope or schedule a demonstration
of the software system, please contact Dan Paoletti at OHA –

Patient Origin
Studies
Currently 181 hospitals in Ohio and neighboring states submit financial
and clinical information to OHA's database. The inpatient data are
severity adjusted and OHA operates with a faster data turnaround time
than most similar data programs. Data are released every six months and
are available five months after the end of the reporting period. Patient
origin studies are ad hoc studies, and any
hospital participating in the OHA data program can request a report on
marketing, benchmarking, trending, physician recruitment or other
similar information.
Transparency Reports
Each year, Ohio's hospitals must
submit a report to the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) listing the top
60 most frequent Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs) for all payer
cases. These reports must contain number of discharges, average charge
and length of stay. Data are reported on a severity-adjusted basis using
the ODH-required Refined Group DRG system. View the most recent
reports.
In
addition, Hospitals
in Ohio are annually required to submit a report to the Ohio Department of
Health (ODH) that lists the top 60 most frequently treated Primary
Procedures. The data contained in these reports are the number of
primary procedures and
the average charge. View the
most recent
reports.

Continuous Service Readiness
The
Continuous Service Readiness™ Program (CSR) is a joint effort of OHA
and Joint Commission Resources, a subsidiary of JCAHO, to assist
hospitals in attaining a level of continuous readiness for accreditation
surveys. The OHA's CSR Program is a process of ongoing consultation and
education designed to support health care organizations in their efforts
to improve the quality of care delivered in their communities and meet
JCAHO Standards for Accreditation. There are currently over 100 Ohio
hospitals participating in the CSR. To learn more about the introductory
session please contact Dorothy
Aldridge at dorothya@ohanet.org.

OHA
Dashboard
The OHA Dashboard
(This section is password
protected. Please complete the form below)
provides member hospitals with benchmark
data on selected financial and quality indicators, allowing hospitals
to compare their indicators with Ohio hospitals of similar
size, geography and teaching status. Statewide and national quality
indicators are also available for certain conditions. The OHA Dashboard
navigates users through a series of screens, ultimately allowing users
to select one of three reports:
-
Financial
Reports - displays common profitability measures such as debt
service coverage, operating margin and total margin.
-
Quality
Reports - displays core measure rates for heart attack,
congestive heart failure, pneumonia and pregnancy.
-
Medicaid/HCAP
Reports - displays inpatient and outpatient Medicaid payment
rates, Medicaid outpatient payment rates by service and Hospital
Care Assurance Program data.
Data from the dashboard are available to
Type I and II members of OHA. To apply
for a password, fill out this
form and a username and password will be
supplied in 1-3
business days.
AHRQ Patient Safety Indicator Reports
At the request of a hospital CEO or designee, the
Ohio Patient
Safety Institute (OPSI) can provide any OHA member hospital with a
report of its performance on 20 of the Agency for Health Care Research
and Quality Patient Safety Indicators. Contact Rosalie Weakland at
rosaliew@ohanet.org or
614.221.7614.
Consumer’s Guide to Quality Health Care in Ohio
In 2005, the OHA launched the
online consumer’s guide as an easy-to-use Internet roadmap to help
consumers navigate and use the health care quality and charge
information currently available to them. This resource digs consumers
down to pertinent facts on the Web sites of the many organizations
offering online health care information. Consumers can quickly find
information about a specific hospital or physician, check out quality
information on several local health care providers or even compare
charges for common treatments at various hospitals. View the
Consumer’s Guide.
