Ohio Society for Healthcare Facilities Management

Purpose and Objectives 
OSHFM was established as an affiliated society of  OHA in February 1983.  The society's purpose is to advance the development of hospital engineering, security and safety in Ohio by:

  • Encouraging and assisting members in developing their knowledge and increasing their competence in the field in order to improve the quality of patient care and comfort.
  • Providing a medium for the exchange of ideas and dissemination of information among members.
  • Assisting hospital administration and the public in understanding that the practice of hospital engineering calls for special training and experience.
  • Monitoring and influencing legislation, regulations, codes and standards that impact on hospital engineering.

In meeting these objectives, the Ohio Society for Healthcare Facilities Management promotes careers in hospital engineering, security & safety, develops educational programming, and encourages affiliation with the American Society for Hospital Engineering.

Membership
Active Membership in the society shall be available to those individuals who are active in the field of management of hospital engineering who are eligible for personal membership in the OHA.  Hospital engineering is defined as both an art and a science of efficiency planning, managing and maintaining the physical environment, equipment and systems for health care and includes plant operations, clinical engineering, biomedical engineering, safety technology and telecommunications.

Leadership 
The OSHFM board of directors comprises 14 members including the president, president-elect, immediate past president, secretary, two members from each of the four OHA districts and two at-large representatives. 

Responsibilities of the board include developing plans, policies and procedures for the society; establishing standing and ad hoc committees; reviewing the recommendations of these committees; implementing society programs; and initiating educational programming.
